How Root works

Root is a layer on top of existing memecoin launchpads. It detects vamps, groups them into meme buckets, and lets devs lock supply permanently into reward programs called Roots.

Overview

  1. Scan. Every new token on pump.fun, Raydium LaunchLab, Meteora DBC pads, and Bags is checked against existing coins and grouped into a meme bucket.
  2. Lock. A token's creator locks supply into Root. The vault has no withdraw function.
  3. Root it. The creator splits the locked supply across Roots. Each Root fires on an event (a vamp appears, a rival dies, a milestone is hit, an epoch ends) and pays out from the vault.

Roots work like hooks, one layer up. A token hook runs code on every transfer. A Root runs code on a market or bucket event, with no change to the token itself and no relaunch.

Meme buckets

Every similar coin goes into the same bucket. There is no “original”, and any coin in a bucket can lock and run Roots. Coins are matched by:

  • X link: the same account, post, or community.
  • Image: near-identical images (perceptual hashing) and the same character re-drawn (image embeddings).
  • Ticker and name: after stripping look-alike characters and affixes like 2, INU, BABY, CTO, and SOL.
  • Website or Telegram: the same domain or invite.

Only strong matches (X link or image) can merge two buckets, so a shared ticker alone can't chain unrelated memes together.

Qualified competitors

A coin in your bucket counts as a qualified competitor (in range) when all of these hold:

  • It's in the same meme bucket.
  • Its 15-minute average market cap is at least 25% of your coin's.
  • Its 15-minute average market cap is at least $15,000.
  • It has at least 100 holders, not counting pools.
  • It has real (non-wash) trading volume over the last hour.

There's no minimum age. In-range coins can be swapped into your coin (Swap), trigger Frenzy when they die, and be challenged to Duels.

Locking

Who can lock

Only the wallet that created the token. Root reads the creator on-chain (from the pump.fun bonding curve, or the mint's creation transaction) and rejects deposits from any other wallet.

Two ways to lock

  • Sign with your wallet. Sign in with the creator wallet and approve one transaction that sends the tokens and the fee to your coin's vault.
  • Send from the creator wallet. No sign-in. Set up your Roots, then send the tokens and the fee to Root's deposit address. Root identifies the sending wallet and activates the lock when both arrive.

Fee

A one-time 0.1 SOL per token.

Adding more later

Bought more supply? Lock more at any time from the coin's Root page. Allocations are add-only: you can top up a Root or assign new supply, but never shrink one.

How payouts work

Locked supply has to last. Most devs lock 20% or less, and Root is built so that pool keeps paying for years instead of being drained in weeks.

  • Rewards are a small % of what you hold, so bigger holders earn more and everyone earns something.
  • Each Root can pay out at most a small % of what's left in its pool per period. When more people qualify, shares scale down evenly instead of the pool running dry.
  • Because the cap is a % of what's left, pools shrink slowly. A Holder pool paying its full 0.2% cap every day still has about half left after a year.

Example: a 20% lock

A coin with a 1B supply locks 200M tokens and puts 30% of that (60M) in Holder.

  • Holder pays 0.02% of each holder's balance per day, up to 2× for long-term holders.
  • The pool can pay out at most 0.2% of what's left per day: 120K tokens on day one.
  • A wallet holding 1M tokens (0.1% of supply) earns 200 tokens a day, 400 once it has held for 30 days. If everyone's rewards add up to more than the daily cap, each share is scaled down by the same amount.
  • Even paying the full cap every day, about half the Holder pool is still there after a year.

Every default below can be changed when you set up your Roots. The Fee Root can also top pools back up with creator fees or any SOL you send in.

The Roots

Turn on any mix and split your locked supply between them. Every Root has its own settings.

Bucket wars

Swap

Holders of a qualified competitor in your bucket swap on Root. Their tokens are sold, the SOL buys your coin, and they get a bonus on what they received. One swap per wallet per bucket, a cap per wallet, and a cap per vamp.

Swap bonus
2 % of tokens received
Max bonus per wallet
0.01 % of supply
Max per vamp
5 % of pool

Frenzy

A qualified competitor dies (down 85% from peak and below range for 1 hour) while your coin is ahead. Everyone who held through the battle earns a small % of their holdings, capped per kill.

Payout per kill
0.25 % of your holdings
Cap per kill
2 % of pool
Last Coin Standing
1 % of your holdings

Duel

Challenge another rooted coin in your bucket with a wager and a timer. At the end, the coin with the higher 30-minute TWAP market cap wins. The loser's wager is sold and the SOL buys the winner.

Bucket Scout

Anyone can report a coin that belongs in your bucket. If it's accepted and later qualifies as a competitor, the first reporter earns a small fixed bounty.

Bounty per find
0.001 % of supply
Max finds paid
5 per day

Holders

Holder

Each day you earn a small % of your lowest balance that day, boosted the longer you've held. The whole pool pays out at most a small % of what's left per day, so it lasts.

Daily rate

Long-hold boost

Milestone

Set a ladder of market cap targets. The first time the 1-hour TWAP crosses one, everyone who held for the previous 24 hours earns that milestone's % of their holdings.

Milestones
$100K, $500K, $1M, $10M
Payout per milestone
0.1 / 0.25 / 0.5 / 1 % of your holdings
Cap per milestone
10 % of pool

Dip Defender

When price drops past your trigger, a dip window opens. Wallets that net-buy during it and hold for the required days earn a small bonus on what they bought.

Lottery

Tickets are your time-weighted balance. The ticket list is committed on-chain before verifiable randomness picks the winners. Each draw pays a small slice of the pool across several winners.

Supply

Burn

Mix a slow daily drip with event burns: every swap in, every rival that dies, every milestone hit, and unclaimed rewards. Burns are final and visible on-chain.

Daily drip
0.05 % of pool
Swap-burn

Fee

SOL sent to your vault (creator fees or anything else) buys your coin in small random chunks. What it buys is split between burn, Holder, and Frenzy, topping those pools back up.

Split (burn / holder / frenzy)
50 / 30 / 20

Growth

Referral

A buyer purchases through a referral link on Root's site. After the hold period you choose, the sharer and the buyer each earn a small % of what's still held.

Buyer bonus

Social

Shill

Creators link their account and submit a post. After 24 hours, payout is views ÷ 1,000 × your rate × a quality score from engagement and account quality, within a daily budget.

Claims & payouts

The Root engine computes payouts each epoch, publishes the full input data, and posts a merkle root on-chain. After a short dispute window, holders claim with a proof. Anyone can recompute the numbers.

Holder-style Roots use your lowest balance during the window, not a snapshot, so buying right before and selling right after earns nothing.

Security

  • The vault program has no withdraw instruction. Tokens leave only through claims, swap bonuses, duels, and burns.
  • Swaps are atomic and non-custodial: you sign one transaction, and Root never holds your funds.
  • During beta the program upgrade key sits behind a multisig and a timelock. After audit it becomes immutable.
